uhs-vu vs mhsob round 15 2018

Round 15

Thanks to our local sponsors in Three Crowns Hotel (delicious keg, thank you Tom), Errol St Spinal and Sports Physiotherapy, Conlan Cummings Lawyers and from over the border Rankin Builders!

Thirds

The penultimate round for our highflying Zookeepers with plenty on the line against North Brunny with the double chance well and truly alive from the weekends victory.

The morning was excellent for some local footy at Allard Park nay too far from Brens but the Bulls made it feel miles away with their strong and no nonsense style of play having our boys measure for the first half despite the play being equally shared. Wayward kicking (2.15.27) saw the thirds down by a couple goals at the half with plenty to give!

The third quarter started hotly contested between both outfits until a break midway through the quarter saw Uni put their kicking boots on to fire away from North Brunswick. This dominance continued into the final term and saw our beloved Zooies victorious with an 80 point turnaround from the half. The big men in Frank the Tank (4), Grappa and Cheese were influential and were complimented nicely by Tombeek (2), Toby and Caleb

The Matt Mallia Kanga Kanga Kanga Scoreboard:

UHSVU 15.23.113
North Brunswick 7.2.44

Women

Ladies Day at Brens started in front of a healthy crowd with UHSW taking on a tough Hawthorn in a contested and entertaining game of football.

Uni started the day slowly and Hawthorn showed their true colours and why they are amongst the finals action, but after the quarter time break our girls came out firing kicking 3.3 to the Hawks 1.0 bringing us right back in it at the half!

Ali and Katie O’ had their hands full in defence but were resilient like they’ve been all year aided by the assistance of Abbey “The Bont” Mills and Mandy working hard also!
Carly continued her purple patch and Katie Webb’s intensity around the contest was giving Uni what they needed to stay in the game.

Unfortunately Uni couldn’t finish the year on a high with Hawthorn getting away in the last, but showed their competitiveness right to the very end capping off a fun year with the group!

The Sam Gonzales Great UHS Bake-Off Scoreboard:

UHSW 4.6.30
Hawthorn 5.14.44

Reserves

The rising magoos we’re gunning for a shot at top spot in a game of the VAFA alphabet with UHSVU taking on MHSOB at Brens. The Unicorns had our boys measure the first time when playing away from home, but north of the river Uni High put on a display worthy of a premiership threat come September!

Our boys shot out the blocks early and never looked back with Specky(3) dominating contested aerial duels while silky smooth Barnes and Bentang polished off clearances and great run around the ground. Brothers Saill (Chew Toy and Jack), were excellent over the ground and the Bull of Brens, Reis Korp couldn’t be tamed in the middle.

The victory has pushed the two’s up into double chance territory come finals time providing the winning ways continue!

The Peter Berogna Thursday Night Quinoa and Schnitzel Scoreboard:

UHSVU 18.11.119
MHSOB 8.10.58

Seniors

At the prime time of 2pm the Seniors took on aspiring finals contender Melbourne High in which was touted to be a close fixture by those in Division 2 and the first quarter showed just that.

At 3 goals a piece and only a minor score separating the two in UHS’s favour at quarter time, the lads were out to prove why they mean business in 2018!

Tommy Waters and the very handsome Michael Healey were excellent on the wing and broke the game open along with the Gerard’s from opposing flanks. Uni kicked away clinically as the game went on and Brandon Jackson (7) flew under the radar for something different whilst at the other end old mate Jim Ford was dominant in defence.

19 goals to 1 from quarter time saw a hefty margin at games end, giving the seniors much confidence going into a top of the table clash next week!

The George McAdam Mount Franklin Scoreboard:

UHSVU 21.13.139
MHSOB 4.3.27

This coming week sees the Seniors and Reserves in a crucial outing against Old Parade away, whilst the Thirds take on Chadstone away looking to get a double chance in their last season game!

The ladies can now rest after a big year of UHSW footy but are always most welcome to stay involved until the clubs year is over!

Everyone in the UHSVU community is encouraged to support our club as we have a great chance to do what the club has never done in 3 potential grand final appearances (and perhaps a premiership or 3). Details of each game can be found on the VAFA website or through the club either in person or via social media #govultures #zookeeperfooty
