In form, on the hunt and harnessing their momentum, are the ever exciting UHSVU Zookeepers.
Saturday morning saw them take on a sorry Swinburne Uni side with winter really showing it’s hand at Brens from 9:20.
Uni dominated play all game and scored a mass of behinds through constant rebounding into the forward 50 by Ant Milicevic’s men, however it was veteran Ben Collins who proved the difference with his goal kicking prowess.

Collo felt like an 18 year old at Lucky Thursday’s on the cruisers in the UHS forward line doing as he pleased without a worry, snagging 3 majors for the Zooies. Ably assisted by the likes of Nick “Lorax” Rowland and Dez, the thirds ran out comfortable victors after a tight first half. Had some of the behinds been converted the margin may have been drastically larger, leaving improvement for an already flourishing team!

UHSVU 8.21.69
Swinburne Uni 4.4.28

The two’s came in heavy favourites after the last outing against Bulleen Temp. Out to increase the record against BT, our two’s were rather casual in their preparation. So much so that Ruckman and local chicken wing enthusiast, Frank the Tank Rubinstein forgot his entire uniform (unsure whether Frank is still sitting in the driveway waiting for his girlfriend to drop it off or not).

Back to the football.
As predicted, the Uni boys had control of the footy for a majority of the day and hardly looked flustered against an undermanned Bulleen. The return of self-proclaimed local legend Jack Bishop (2 majors) after 14 months on the sidelines brought a smile to the Uni High faithful getting amongst the best along with Barnesy and Bae-watch Smith (3 delightful sausage rolls). The Chook and Diff also got into the swing of things with 2 a piece.
Uni High too strong for the Bull Ants

UHSVU 14.17.101
Bulleen Templestowe 2.1.13

With round 12 came the return of a few household names in Sweeney, Sharrock (The Dyson) and Guggisberg all gracing the field for a jaunt on Saturday afternoon against a Bulleen Temp team which pushed Uni right to the wire last time.

The seniors however, were not keen on a repeat of the last meeting by winning each quarter and starting well this time round. Chris Lund was inspired by all the maple syrup and Caesar’s he was going to drink the following day by slotting 4 goals in a season where he has tasted some good senior footy. It was the boys from the backline in Brambley, Mick Healey and Gez Sharrock who were the catalyst for an 8th consecutive senior victory whilst Sween and Aaron, like the good old dogs they are, taught the pups a few new tricks with 3 bones each for the day.

Final Scores

UHSVU 15.6.96
Bulleen Templestowe 5.12.42

UHSW had the luxury of an 11:30am Sunday spot by the Moonee Ponds creek against Therry Penola on a crisp morning where the smell of onions from the barbecue wafted across the oval.

In near perfect football conditions, the stage was set for an exciting game of Sunday footy! From the word go, the tackling, the run and carry and direct kicking was making it an excellent spectacle for both teams supporters.
Uni High made some excellent charges forward through the likes of Ana Gil, Snooze, Gel (1) and Bella Lynch! However Therry were well drilled and rebounded quickly to apply scoreboard pressure, leaving Uni down at the halftime break by 27 points.

The second half told a different story with Uni dominating play through the defensive general Ella Ingram enabling the best use of the footy for her teammates in Sarah Carnovale, Gin, Sam and Camille. This attacking style freed up the likes of Maddi Hince (2) and Abbey “The Bont” Mills (1) in front of goal closing the gap at the final siren by 17 points. A few unlucky posts in the mix showing that on our day, the girls can take it to the competition with an exciting brand of football hopefully snatching a couple more wins by seasons end.

UHSW 4.7.31
Therry Penola 6.12.48

There is a VAFA Bye this week, meaning no games for all teams! Training will be running however at modified times and venues (players check notice board or contact coach/captains if unsure)

As we hit the cold depths of winter, the UHSVU social calendar is only heating up with the Ball on the 14th of July (limited tickets left!), Ladies Day on the 28th of July and the reverse raffle still to come, so make sure you stay posted via this page or around the club!
See Joey, Ando or Crossy for details about any of these events!
